How to Prepare for Your Bridal Appointment (So You Actually Enjoy It)

Because finding your dress should feel exciting, not overwhelming

Booking your bridal appointment is such a special moment, but it can also come with a lot of questions.

What should you wear? Who should you bring? Do you need to know what style you want? And what happens if you find the one?

The truth is, you don't need to have everything figured out before you start wedding dress shopping. But a little preparation can completely change how your appointment feels.

Instead of second-guessing everything, you can relax into the experience and actually enjoy finding your dress.

Here’s how to prepare for your bridal appointment.

1. What should you wear to a bridal appointment?

It might sound like a small detail, but wearing the right things can help you focus on how each dress actually looks and feels.

We recommend:

  • Nude, seamless underwear

  • A bra you'd realistically wear, or no bra if that's likely to work better with your chosen style

  • Comfortable clothes that are easy to change in and out of

  • Minimal make-up

  • No fresh fake tan

You don't need to buy special bridal underwear before your appointment. Once you've found your dress, you'll have a much better idea of what you'll actually need underneath it.

2. Keep your hair simple, but intentional

You definitely don't need to arrive wedding-ready.

But having your hair vaguely similar to how you imagine wearing it on your wedding day can make it easier to picture the complete look.

If you're thinking about an updo, try a simple low bun. If you usually prefer your hair down, wear it that way.

It doesn't need to be perfect. It's simply about helping you imagine yourself as a bride.

3. Who should you bring wedding dress shopping?

This is one of the biggest things to think about before your appointment.

Bringing a large group might sound fun, but lots of different opinions can quickly become overwhelming. Everyone sees something different and suddenly it becomes difficult to hear what you think.

Instead, consider bringing two or three people you really trust.

Choose the people who understand your style, make you feel confident and will support your decision rather than trying to make it for you.

Ultimately, the person who needs to love the dress is you.

4. Have some wedding dress ideas, but stay open-minded

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what wedding dress you want.

A few saved photos, favourite designers or a general idea of the styles you're drawn to can be really useful.

Before your appointment, you can also browse our current wedding dresses and make a note of any gowns or designers you'd particularly like to try.

But try not to rule things out before you've put them on.

Some of the best bridal moments come from trying a dress you would never have picked from the rail.

Let yourself be surprised.

5. Set a wedding dress budget you're comfortable with

Before your bridal appointment, have a realistic idea of what you're happy to spend.

This means we can focus on dresses that are genuine options for you, rather than putting you in something you fall in love with but don't feel comfortable buying.

At & She Loves Bridal, our designer sample wedding dresses typically range from £500 to £2,500, giving you the opportunity to find an incredible designer gown without the traditional made-to-order price.

It's also worth remembering that you may need to budget separately for alterations and accessories.

6. Come ready to find your wedding dress

This doesn't mean you need to put pressure on yourself to leave with a dress.

But there is a difference between browsing wedding dresses and being ready to find yours.

This is particularly important when shopping off-the-peg.

At & She Loves Bridal, every gown is available to purchase. The dress you're trying on is the actual dress you could take home.

Our gowns are individual, so once a particular dress has sold, it may not be available again.

There should never be pressure to say yes, but it helps to come knowing that if you fall in love, you can.

7. Don't put pressure on yourself to have a 'yes' moment

You don't have to cry.

Your mum doesn't have to cry.

The room doesn't have to fall silent while everyone waits for you to announce that you've found the one.

For many brides, knowing they've found their wedding dress is much quieter than that.

It might simply be feeling comfortable. Confident. Like yourself.

Or realising that you don't want to take the dress off.

There isn't a correct way to feel when you find your wedding dress.

Your version of the yes moment is enough.
